Computer and information systems managersheld about 293,000 jobs last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Employment of these professionals is expected to increase by 17% through 2018, which is significantly higher than the national average for all other occupations. Most of the new job growth may be attributed to the application of new technologies in the workplace.

In order to provide more students with an opportunity to study science-related fields, the National Science Foundation has awarded Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) with funding to provide international experience for computer information technology students, according to a press release.

With the grant, up to eight BHCC students who plan to continue their technology degrees at the University of Massachusetts-Boston will study next summer at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. At the end of the summer, the students will return to attend UMass Boston as juniors.

"It is extremely important in this global arena to have a working knowledge of other countries and cultures. There's no better way than to experience it first-hand," said Boston-area Advanced Technology Connections principal investigator, Deborah Boisvert, who will administer the grant.
